Summary:
Tensions are high between Nuwangi and Kurou, but Benaui steps in and diffuses their argument. In the rebel camp, the villagers continue to train while more villages join them. Eruru finds a suspicious man hanging around, so she has him caught and taken to Hakuoro. Oboro suspects him to be a spy for Inkara, but the man claims to be just a peddler. After he shows them his wares, Hakuoro decides to believe him and send him on his way. As Hakuoro leads peddler out, the man pulls a knife on him as a warning to him about his vulnerability. The peddler also seems to know about Yuzuha’s reliance on purple amber as medicine and gives some to Hakuoro. As it turns out, the merchant really was a spy for Benaui. Benaui, who is now stationed at a gate outpost, meets with the spy after capturing and letting go a rebel messenger. That messenger happens to be from a village on the other side of the gate and convinces Hakuoro to lead an attack on the gate. Eruru seems more and more unhappy with the current situation and is quite worried about Hakuoro.
That night, Hakuoro leads his army in an assault. Using a ram, they are able to punch a hole through the walls of the outpost. Oboro jumps over the wall with a group of skilled fighters to soften up the enemy first. The main force quickly topples the outer wall, but then they come face to face with Benaui and his troops. The two sides collide in bloody fighting; once again, Oboro locks blades with Kurou while Hakuoro fights Benaui. Hakuoro, however, is still no match for Benaui’s skills. The imperial forces seem to be winning the battle and Benaui asks Hakuoro to surrender or risk annihilation. Both sides then hear yelling coming from outside the walls. Reinforcements from the other side of the gate come pouring through and soon surround the imperial forces. Benaui realizes that he’s lost the battle and orders a retreat. With their objective met, Hakuoro brings the troops home to the welcome arms of the village’s women. Eruru and Aruru, however, are feeling more and more distant from and concerned about Hakuoro. Meanwhile, Benaui returns to Inkara. The emperor’s not happy with Benaui’s failure, but reveals that he had Nuwangi attack another village not involved in the revolt. This gets Benaui angry enough to say that the foundation of a country is its people – without the people there is no country. Of course, this doesn’t sit well with the emperor, and Benaui is put in jail.
What I don’t get is why they didn’t just use Mukkuru again. I’m pretty sure that the tiger could have handled the entire enemy army and made a feast out of it. When you’ve got a super-weapon like that (and I doubt the enemy knows its weakness), why sacrifice valuable lives?
Anyway, Hakuoro’s rebellion grows bigger by the day while Nuwangi is grabbing more and more power as Inkara’s right hand man. Benaui probably doesn’t have much loyalty left to Inkara, so if Benaui is going to join the revolt, this is as good a point as any to do it. The preview shows him fighting Hakuoro and Oboro though, so maybe not quite just yet. Next episode seems to be the attack on Inkara’s castle.
